Blogger: You've Come A Long Way Baby
By Larry Westfall
I have to admit that I am a Wordpress kind of guy. I have quite a few sites running WP and haven't paid much attention to Blogger in years until my buddy needed some help with his Blogger blog. I couldn't figure out how to fix his issue without having a blog there myself, so I created one and was able to fix his issue easily. I didn't think much about the blog until a couple of weeks later while searching for a template for another site, I came across a very nice theme for a blogger blog. I went back to the test blog and set it up using the new template and was quite impressed. I fiddled with the widgets/gadgets and got my site going. The blog I set up, Khon Kaen Expat, is very similar in content to my WP Khon Kaen Retirement blog. So, why have two similar blogs. Easy. I can post to one and then write a similar post to the other maybe even using the same photos. It doesn't take long to add a second similar post and it gives me a place to put links to where I really want people to go. Blogger also has very simple integration of Google AdSense and Amazon's affiliate program. There are advantages and disadvantages comparing Blogger to WP, but each has its place. Blogger has changed for the better over the years as has Wordpress both making the blogger's life much easier. And, the biggest advantage for Blogger is that it is free and sets up in a few minutes. Anyhow, Blogger has grown up over the years, has a number of easily integrated widgets, and is loved by its owner, Google. Check it out - you may want to set up your initial or an additional blog at blogger.com

Rosemary, IMHO, it all depends if you're willing to risk losing your content in an instant, just because Google decided to, I don't know, ban your account, no question, nothing
Thank you for sharing this valuable information, Larry. I'm determined to get a handle on both wordpress and blogger, so I really appreciate the advise. Keep up the good work. Best wishes. Frederick
I still prefer Blogger blogs because they are free. I have many of them set up and forgotten several years ago. I have lost the login details of some of them and Google has not helped me to get them. However, I share Philippe's concerns about Google banning Blogger blogs without notice. I have lost some blogs doing quite well as a result of that. It is quite frustrating to have to go through that. I now prefer to host my blogs if I can afford it.
As you can see, I use Blogger for my Power of Pets blog - for the simple reason that it's free and easy to use, but I save everything I write there - just incase; I have heard so many stories about Google banning accounts there and I would hate to lose my content. From what I have read though, Wordpress.org seems the way to go and at the moment I am going through the process of setting a blog up there; it seems safer.
