Epubs Plus Public Domain Equals Money

If you want to make some money publishing epubs and don't feel like writing, use public domain works provided by the government. Most works that a country's government publishes are in the public domain since they are technically paid for by taxes from the people. However, check the laws for your country or the country you plan to use. In the United States, about 99% of everything published by the Government is in the public domain and is usually so stated on their web sites. This includes the military sites where you can find lots of manuals. Don't discount the use of military manuals as there are many good ones dealing with management and leadership. I would steer clear of public domain works from the early 1900's and late 1800's. These books have been done to death and most of the online book stores don't want them. The problem is that people have a hard time finding the material with so many pages on the Internet to search through. That is where you come in. If you are willing to spend some time searching and upload a book to a major online bookstore, there are those that will pay to buy the books because they don't know where to find it online. So, you will have to do a bit of searching to find books that have yet to be published in epub format. If you are good at conducting online searches, you can dig up these books, convert them to epub (either using InDesign, Calibre, epubbud.com, or the online bookstore's conversion software) and sell them. After all, they are in the public domain, so anyone can do pretty much anything with them. You can find travel books, cook books, training manuals, management information and a whole lot more. You just have to be able to hunt better than the average Internet surfer. The easiest way to find these gems is to go to Google and do a search by a specific site. For example: keyword site:.gov or keyword site:.travel.gov. You can also add the type of document using Google's Advanced search. I usually look for material in PDF format only. Once you have these gems, you can upload them to Amazon for sale on their Kindle or other smart devices, at Barnes & Noble for their Nook, and to the iBookstore for the iPad or iPhone if you have a Mac. You can also upload to the iBookstore via Smashwords.com or Lulu.com but that adds another middleman who will take a cut of the profits. It doesn't cost anything but time to publish these public domain works and once they are uploaded, you can start making money. The more you upload, the more you can make. So, do some online hunting and find some gems to convert to the epub format and start making a steady monthly income.

Of course using public domain material and embellishing it even more than the government has already and creating original fiction in epub format is pretty good too.
