Khon Kaen
By Larry Westfall
Mornings in Khon Kaen are greeted with the sound of a bell at the local Buddhist temple ringing indicating it is time for the monks to go walking around the city to receive donations from the local people. Barefoot monks will walk up and down the streets with a bowl and devotees will patiently wait with their merit making offering of food, water, or sundry items. Fishermen will either be in small boats on the lake or wading with their nets strung out to ensnare the fish. Joggers and other early morning fitness enthusiasts run the 4 kilometers around the lake or use the free fitness equipment. Street vendors are firing up their barbecue grill and cooking chicken or pork on wooden skewers. Children line the streets in their blue and white uniforms waiting for the modified pick-up truck to usher them to school. Shop owners are busily sweeping away last night's dirt from the front of their small business. Late night revelers stop at the 7-11 to get food or medicine to cure their hangover. Motorcycles go zipping by carrying businessmen and women to their government jobs. Good Morning Khon Kaen

Khon Kaen sounds like a busy place where everyone has a routine and sticks to it! Is it a big town? You have got me curious about it! I love the sunrise photo Larry, it looks amazing!

Barb - Khon Kaen is a relatively small city, mostly rural, but growing and getting more and more urban. I have my routine too - get up and get my morning bike ride exercise at sunrise and watch the city wake up.
Thank you for sharing a piece of the world that most of us will never see, Larry. You're doing a fine job of making it interesting, with your writing and your images. Keep up the good work. Best wishes. Frederick

Frederick - glad you like the images - I enjoy taking photos everywhere I go.
Now this is just poetic.

Thanks Nick. Guess I'm a poet and don't know it!
