Profit Using Public Domain Products

What is Public Domain material? Here is a definition from Wikipedia: The public domain is an intellectual property designation for the range of content that is not owned or controlled by anyone. These materials are public property, and available for anyone to use freely (the "right to copy") for any purpose. So, what does this mean you the Internet marketer? It means that there is an unlimited supply of data, books, documents, photos, videos, articles, and software available online for free. I am writing this from an American perspective and the rules that apply to the United States. Your rules may be different in your country. Almost everything produced by the U.S. government, including the U.S. military, is in the public domain. Those items that are obviously not included are classified material, private records, and items specifically deemed to be NOT in the public domain by the government. This means you can do a search online and find all kinds of material to add to your website. There are cookbooks that you can offer courtesy of Uncle Sam, articles on every subject under the sun, and photographs that you may be able to use as graphics on your website. It's simple. Go to your favorite search engine and type in the word or phrase you are looking for. Add this to the end of the search box - site:.gov or site:.mil - and you will only get listings from those domains. Keep in mind that you will also get listings from other countries too. Download an article or an eBook and rewrite the material to make it your own. Or, just add the eBook to your site and make it a free download. The possibilities are as endless as the material available. You will be able to find material on Consumer Protection, Credit Cards, Finance, Education, Health, Labor, and Fuel Economy to name a few. You can even find local information since each state in the USA has a website. Most cities within the state will also have web sites. You will also be surprised at the material available on military web sites. They also have cookbooks, education and training aids, and regulations. Don't laugh. Military regulations cover every topic from management to leadership to ethics and a whole lot more. However, there are fewer military manuals available online since 9/11 but you can still find good material if you are diligent. Just don't expect to find the manual for making a nuclear bomb online. I am not going to cover material that is no longer under copyright protection. You can do your own research to find additional material that you may be able to use. Copyright laws differ from country to country and are too complex for a short article. So, go and do a simple search and see how much material you can find for your topic that can help you with your web site.
