Thailand Real Estate By Larry Westfall If you are not a Thai national, you cannot own land in Thailand. This is to prevent foreigners from buying up the country. So, what do you do if you are planning to retire in Thailand and want a permanent residence/ You can purchase a condominium outright as long as it complies with Thai law regarding how many percent of the condos are for Thais and how many are for foreigners. You can have your Thai spouse purchase the land (with your money, of course) and you get a lease for the building and any other structures on the property. It can be complicated and you want to make sure that you follow Thai law and also want to make sure that you protect yourself from your spouse - just in case. Thailand is a great place to retire. Just make sure that you do some research, hire a good lawyer, and follow the law.
