Tips For Choosing A Domain Name

Choosing a domain name can be a headache. Just when you think you have come up with a brilliant name for a web site, you discover it has already been taken. What to do? Let me give you an example. A few years ago, I was a frequent visitor to Pattaya, Thailand. This is a beach resort area in Thailand. I even put together an eBook for first time visitors. On my eBook web site, I decided to also promote local hotels in Pattaya, so I joined a Thailand Hotel affiliate program. To me,it made sense to sell an eBook for the first time traveler and also recommend where to stay and make money with two products instead of just one. Initially, I just put a couple of banners on the page, but, after a while, decided to set up some web pages devoted strictly to the hotel affiliate. Since Pattaya was an area I was extremely familiar with, I figured promoting hotels would be a good fit with the eBook. I also provided easy contact info and offered to answer any and all questions from those that purchased the eBook (and also for those that didn't). So, I went to the Google keyword analyzer to do some research. I found that all the good names had already been taken! But, I didn't despair. I searched for the keyword phrase "Pattaya hotels" and found some terms that had decent amounts of searches and low to medium competition. So, now, I am the proud owner of Pattaya-Resort.com, Pattaya-accommodations.com, Pattaya-beach-hotel.com, and Hotel-in-Pattaya.com. All of these terms had a good number of searches monthly and the affiliate company has an easy to add script to update the pages. As a matter of fact, the hotel affiliate company liked one of the sites so much (Pattaya-resort.com), they have it on their front page as one of three "partner sites". Do your homework and look for related keywords or keyword phrases before you buy your domain. Then, promote the heck out of it.

You do a great job of explaining what to do. I have learned a lot, and I solved my problem with html. I plan to write an intel about how I learned it, because it was so easy.
I'm doing much better, and finally feel like I have some control over what I'm doing. Thanks for the Mturk.com, I can make a little every day so it will pay for my computer needs.

Watkins Lady - glad you got the HTML issue sorted out. Not that difficult and lots of tutorials online. Always a good feeling when the light bulb goes on and you can say "Now I understand". Hang in there.
Yeah, picking a domain name is not easy. I do prefer to pick domain names based on a company name choice rather than getting every keyword in there.
