Wordpress Isn't Just For Blogs Anymore

It wasn't that long ago that Wordpress came on the Internet scene and we only had one theme - Kubrick - to use. Through the power of the Internet, people from around the world began developing themes and figuring out how to create plug-ins to make Wordpress even better. Today, you can do just about anything with Wordpress. It is my first choice when I am developing a new web site. With tens of thousands of ready made templates, and plug-ins that allow just about anything, you can create a web site that is worthy of praise. With Wordpress you can now easily create photo albums, Content Management Systems (CMS), E-commerce stores, membership sites, and a whole lot more. I recently set up a classified ads site for Thailand using Wordpress. You can see the site at Thailand Ads. You can make it a free or paid site. You can even set up membership sites where you can sell products and have people pay a monthly fee. I have a site like this at PD Members where I sell templates, scrips, software, and articles. I even have a small book store set up at Isaan Books to sell eBook about Northeastern Thailand. The sky is the limit with Wordpress and all of the ready-made templates with plug-ins already incorporated. Keep in mind that you may have to pay a little if you want a really nice template or a special plug-in, but most are free. So, get out there and do more than just blog about your daily existence like I do at Khon Kaen Retirement and make that special web site and see just how easy it is.

I use Wordpress for the majority of my web sites and find that it is the easiest to set up and run and also gets me into the search engines the fastest.

Great intel here and I totally agree. I love using wordpress for setting up websites as it gives clients an easy CMS system to use for editing the sites. The less they have to call me for small changes to the site the better!

The only downside for a small business website is the overhead that Wordpress has. I use it when a blogging platform is called for or else I devlopm my own components. and yes I know they should all be blogging but most small business owners are too busy working and solving admin problems. I have developed my own CMS for small business websites making it easier for me to update and solve client issues.
I disagree with you Guy Mclaren. Wordpress is a very easy to use CMS that can be used for much more than blogging. Just take a stroll through the WWW and see how many great static sites are made through wordpress.

@esl899 Yes, wordpress does work and it's an adequate solution but 8mb for 10 pages is heavy overhead.
Ok you got me on that one...yes it is a lot of space to take up for a small website.
